The blogging pros over at Performancing are running their first annual Blog Awards. Part of the awards are determined by a reader’s choice poll of top blogs in various categories, and Copyblogger is fortunate enough to be nominated in three of those areas: Most Influential Blogger, Best Writing/Blogging Blog and Best Blog Design.
It’s an honor to be recognized like this, so let’s see how we’re doing so far:
Most Influential Blogger: I’m currently getting trounced by the likes of Darren Rowse, Seth Godin and Michael Arrington. I can easily live (and agree) with that.
Best Writing/Blogging Blog: Copyblogger is currently getting trounced here as well. This smarts a bit, but the voting is still open.
Best Blog Design: Here, I’m winning. Lord knows I was instrumental in this. Chris Pearson did all the work, and I looked at it and said “Fantastic!” I think I still owe him money.
Voting is open through January 10, so have at it if you’re so inclined. As always, I appreciate your support, and the checks will go out late January (wink, wink).
Umm, to you too, Pearson. I need more work done. 🙂

Your blog indeed has the the most cleanest and functional design. Voted for you. 😉

I’m still wondering why writing and blogging were jammed into the same category, when they’re really two distinct actions. Related, yes. The same? Hell, no.
Oh well. You still have a kick-ass design, Brian, much to the envy of the rest of us.

I’ll vote for you. Best of luck to be winner of Blog Award 2007.

How can they even call some of these people writing blogs
Joanne K says
A site that simply pulls a bunch of jobs and lists them isn’t “the best” of anything- except maybe relisting. Some of these sites are simply up here because the community is lemming-esque.
Jon Morrow says
Victory! Copyblogger is now leading the writing/blogging category by a wide margin 🙂
Dorothy Stahlnecker says

@ Jon – Hey, thanks for reporting that! Cheers, Brian, your faithful loyal subjects will rise you to the throne!
(Okay, so I’m drinking a glass of wine while I write… sue me.)

There are lots and lots and lots of blogs out there on how to drive traffic through seo, social networking and so on.
But there are so few – relatively-speaking – on how to drive traffic – quality traffic – through writing quality content. This blog is a gem, and far more people should read it!
Des Walsh says
way ahead now in the writing cat, as is only right: should not make other potential voters complacent!

Not your fault, but having “2007” awards is *really* confusing: my first reaction was, oh, must have missed that.
Latarsha Lytle says
What an honor to be listed in blog award categories…You deserve it.
I’ll head over there and cast my vote right now.
Thanks for all of your valued posts. I look forward to reading each one of them.

There is really a dire need for a blog writing class.
James Chartrand - JCM Enterprises says
@ Des – Would’ve been better if we all voted in 2007 and they released the winners’ names in 2008.
It’s their first year doing this, I think. Maybe they’ll tweak and make it better next time.

Go Brian! You’re my fave out of all the nominees, and I’ve voted for you there. And when I checked, you were in the lead by a LOT. So don’t stress, you’re doing fine, and deservedly so.
Cheers,

And another thing ..
IMAGES
Forgot to mention how people are depending too much on imagery, at the moment, in their blogs, (and that includes people such as advertising account planners).
Imagery is, of course, a crucial element in effective communication (for all sorts of reasons) but I think it’s really being used and abused because it’s so easy just to download a photo, instead of communicating an idea – something interesting and worthwhile – through words.
I tend too get nervous now as soon as I see a ‘play’ sign or a page covered in images. Instead, I prefer to focus on blogs that just have good, interesting and flowing copy (and then I feel a lot calmer). I am sure there are many others who think the same ? (!)

It looks like this post has motivated the masses – your fans – to swing the tide in your favor. Should be a shoo in now.
Lucille Zimmerman says
I am brand new to blogs (both to the reading and the writing). I have added your blog to my feed. I’m trying to be fairly selective, but it’s obvious from Seth Godin’s mention, and from the comments of others, you know what you are doing. Thank you.
Luke says
Is there a category for most controversial blogger? After reading your posts on digg and google you definitely have guts.
jhay says
Congratulations on the nominations! Good thing there’s still time for me to vote. 😀

You have a good blog, killer content, and you get the rank you deserve.
I really like Chris Pearson’s design, his stuff is truly awesome.

I voted for you…
I really do believe you have the best writing blog. I do think writing and blogging should be a separate category, however.
Good luck to you!
