I used to believe that there was something “special” about being a business owner.
That you had to have a special kind of DNA. That you had to be willing to assume crazy amounts of risk. That entrepreneurs were “born, not made.”
You know what I believe now?
I believe all of that is a total load of BS.
Human beings are resourceful and incredibly tough. We evolved to take care of ourselves. We evolved to find our own food, make our own shelter, and come up with smart ideas about how to live better.
The cubicle is not in my DNA, and it’s not in yours either. It’s not “natural” to work for someone else, to let another person (who probably isn’t as smart as you are) make all the decisions about your work life and your financial security.
But running a business (it could be your main gig, or a “side hustle” in addition to a day job) is an unusual path these days. And it is in our DNA to get a little bit spooked when we find ourselves on unusual paths.
That’s why you don’t act
That “unfamiliar path” business is why you don’t act on the marketing advice you get.
It’s why you make slow progress on your business. And why your audience isn’t growing. And why you keep planning on building something epic, but the plans don’t get translated into action.
It’s because you’re scared of what’s further down the path. Which is completely normal — you haven’t been there yet.
Everyone is scared of the path they haven’t been on yet. I think that’s why we now believe that a business owner is someone with some kind of superhuman bravery — because the examples we get are the oddballs who either ignore risk or who are good at pretending it doesn’t scare them.
What made a difference for me
I started to make real progress in my business when I got “thrown in the deep end” and left my cushy corporate job.
But even then, I stalled and procrastinated and tripped over my own two feet. I wasn’t doing what I knew I needed to do. I was freaked out, and all that freaking out wasn’t moving my business forward.
Until I got a coach.
The cool thing about a business coach is … he or she has been on the path already. They’re like a guide. They know the dangerous spots, the places where travelers get stuck. And they know how to get moving again.
And they know how to calm you down when things get scary. Never underestimate this.
But individual coaching is pricy, and extra dollars are exactly what you don’t have when you’re getting your momentum.
Hey guess what? We have a solution for that
After Gary Barnes (that’s my coach … you can see his smiling picture right up there to the right) and I had been working together for a couple of years, I got tired of referring people to him and then hearing that individual coaching just wasn’t in the budget.
Even though I totally get it, because your cash flow is a very serious consideration in the early days.
So Gary and I got together and put together a 13-week course that would take people through all of the “essentials” he works on with clients. We called it On Purpose Results — because it was about deciding what results you’d get out of your business, instead of drifting along and hoping things would work out.
13 weeks is exactly one quarter of the year — a great amount of time to be able to focus on getting your act together, without being overwhelming or steering into burnout territory.
Gary and I tried to think about all that scary stuff that confronts us when we’re starting on this Unfamiliar Path. And Gary likes to over-deliver, so he also throws in some one-on-one access to him so he can walk you through your own stuck spots. (We all have our own special stuck spots, after all.)
Here’s what the course will do for you
The course is designed so that every week you’ll work on a key point:
- How to set goals like a boss
- How to cope with fear (this is huge)
- How to manage your cash flow
- How to get control of your time
- How to get your big, scary project out the door
And lots of other situations that tend to get us stuck as business owners. (You can check out the whole course list here for a complete list of what we cover, plus a couple of nice bonuses for you.)
At the end of 13 weeks, that “entrepreneurial path” won’t be unfamiliar territory any more — and you’ll know exactly how to navigate it.
You’ll manage your time the way that successful business owners do. You’ll have a solid action plan for getting your next project launched. And you’ll be able to tap Gary on the shoulder at any time if you’re feeling overwhelmed or confused.
You’ll know what successful business owners already know — that none of this is rocket science. You just have to take the right steps at the right time.
Now go do this…
If this is the right time for you to get a handle on your business and make things start happening, click this link for all the details. Don’t put it off … that’s just your old fear-based habits talking. I asked Gary to keep this affordable for new entrepreneurs, and of course there’s a money-back guarantee if it’s not right for you.
P.S.
Obviously, no course is right for everyone. Feel free to “test drive” the program for 30 days and make sure it’s right for you. If it isn’t, just let Gary’s team know (they’re very easy to get hold of) and he’ll make sure you get a full refund.
Working with Gary was tremendously helpful to me, and I put this course together with him to give you guys the same benefits I had. 🙂 We’ve thought for a long time about offering a mindset course here at Copyblogger — and this course I created with Gary was designed to give you the insights, techniques, and encouragement I’d offer you if we sat down for a coffee and talked about your business.
We all tend to put things off, but go get this one done now. Here’s where you can grab all the details and get started …
